Tabebuia Tree Oil Painting

Copyright 2010 Maria Soto Robbins

If you live in south Florida, you have undoubtedly seen this tree just about everywhere! They're in bloom right now and they’re gorgeous! The tabebuia trees are a deciduous variety (meaning that they lose their leaves seasonally) and the ones most striking and common seem to be the yellow ones. Interestingly enough, I learned that this is the national flower of Brazil.
This impressionistic painting is done with oils and palette knives and thick rich, buttery impasto on the flower blooms. There is a certain Zen like feel about it which I find very appealing. Hope you like it!
