Celebrating Lois~(Mom's)~Birthday

This adorable, little, blond and blue eyed girl is my dear mother-in-law, Lois.  This photo was taken in 1915 when she was just three years old.  This year she celebrated her 98th birthday!

She was born in the small town of Toulon, Illinois and has never in her life lived very far from this location. Lois had nine children and has approximately 75 grand kids, many great grandkids and even more great-great grand kids.  She'll be the first to tell you that she doesn't keep track of all of them. Her baby brother who is 93 and his lovely bride (of 64 years) who is 93 as well, attended the event this year.  Longevity runs in this part of the family!

Each year, in August, we gather to commemorate the occasion and the family comes together in Wyoming, Illinois to cheer her and enjoy the bounty of this area. Actually the family puts out an awesome  potluck where everyone shares some great "down, home country cooking"! I think it's safe to say that we all love this communal meal which gives everyone a chance to sit and eat and drink and talk for hours! Oh, I did gain four pounds in five days-yikes!

Happy Birthday, "Mom"!

I sure missed the potluck and the company this year. I heard the picture looked good on the cake though. :)
