Included in Three Different Treasuries!

Again, this past week-end, I found a lovely surprise.  Like last week, I found myself included in three different and lovely treasuries! Here is more information about the curators and some photos of the treasuries.  Thank you all for including me...I am more than flattered!

4leafclover seems to be strictly a buyer on Etsy, without a store,  and she put together a lovely treasury, Cuba Libre.  She included my Mamey Tropical Fruit Original Oil painting in her selections. I love this title, of course!

YanniCreations is from the Philippines and at her Etsy shop,  you'll find one of a kind handcrafted jewelry, pieces created mixing brand new and vintage materials and lots of recycled, upcycled and delightful handmade goodness.
She made this gorgeous Sunscapes treasury and included my Miami Beach Sunrise.

Mariana and Paula, two sisters from Buenos Aires, Argentina, who are known on Etsy as Branda put together this unique treasury "Americana".  They featured my painting, Different Strokes Cupcakes.  They knit with two needles and make beautiful knitted scarves, shawls and other handiwork in their store. This past December, Karin Jurick through her wonderful website "Different Strokes From Different Folks", mounted a portrait challenge. About 180 people from around the world submitted a head and shoulders photo of themselves to Karin so that some other person of the 180 would paint it. Painters painted each other anonymously and then Karin posted all of the wonderful paintings and drawings on her blog. Check it out here.

As you may recall, I painted Lauren Maurer and she painted me. It was definately fun!

Then in January, Jill Polsby wanted to do a surprise, for Karin, and came up with the "Thank You to Karin Jurick Tribute", where 118 of the above 180 artists painted a portrait of Karin from a photograph supplied to them by Jill. Here's a link to the Picasa album for everyone to see. Jill, very generously, made and mailed to Karin, a picture book with all the art that was created of her, as a huge thank you from her fans. Thank you for doing this, Jill!

Check it out and see 118 different versions of Karin! It's amazing how everyone interprets the subject differently!

Karin, if you happen to see this post, and would like your oil painting, I would be happy to mail it to you! You inspire and teach me to improve my skills and try different subjects that I would not try otherwise! A big THANK YOU!

Lauren Maurer's Watercolor Portrait painting of me!

You may recall that I participated in Karin Jurick's blog "Different Strokes from Different Folks" last month by painting a portrait of artist, Lauren Maurer. You can check out our paintings here. Lauren did a superb job of watercolor painting me even going as far as doing me three different times! Well we agreed to send each other our respective paintings and she send me all three of her renditions. I must admit, that this is my favorite of the three and I already have a lovely frame for it!

Thank you Lauren for getting these to me. They made a lovely gift on my birthday!

For those of you who don't know, Different Strokes From Different Folks is Karin Jurick's very cool blog. Each month she puts a challenge photo up and artists will paint different renditions or interpretations of the challenge photo and it's neat to see the same subject painted differently by everyone. The "Year-End Challenge-Swapping 180 Portraits" is now in it's second year. And I decided to participate.

My subject is a beautiful young woman, unknown to me of course, but by the time I finished painting her, I felt as if I did. I really don't think my little painting does justice to her looks. She's so lovely but as Karin Jurick says "don't worry about the likeness - it's about the process". And I did enjoy the process!

Different Strokes from Different Folks Airport Travelers

This month’s photo from the Different Strokes from Different Folks challenge was Airport Travelers. I guess because I haven’t been drawing and painting for too long, I find it very intimidating to paint the human form. So, I didn’t really find this challenge to be one I even wanted to tackle, but hey, I figure that each time that I paint something, anything, I learn something new. Remember I’m mostly self-taught! So, I did finish this little impressionistic oil painting, for what it’s worth, and it occurred to me to put it on auction and whatever I generate from it’s sale, I’ll donate to one of my favorite charities, Smiley Train. Cityscape

This painting was done from a photograph provided on the blog Different Strokes From Different Folks, where artists are encouraged to paint or draw their own interpretations. This is the second time I try this and it was definately a fun challenge although cityscapes are not my favorite subject to paint!
